#42 - This homeschool giveaway is kind of a big deal…

Hi Reader,

Lately, I’ve noticed something about more seasoned homeschool moms.

We’re not usually looking for more curriculum —
but we are looking for fresh ideas.

A spark.
A reminder that learning can still feel fun.
Something that makes you think, “Oh! That could work really well in our home.”

That’s why I love partnering with Homeschool Resource Co.

They’ve put together a massive homeschool giveaway (valued at over $1,000) filled with resources you can actually use — perfect for refreshing your homeschool without pressure.

Inside you’ll find:

  • hands-on projects
  • unit studies
  • life skills
  • art + music
  • science experiments
  • reading and writing resources
  • and an Epson EcoTank printer (I seriously love mine!)

A couple pieces inside that immediately caught my eye:

🌱 Spring Equinox Unit Study
I didn’t fully realize until recently that the equinoxes are tied to the shortest and longest days of the year — and once it clicked, it made the whole concept so much more interesting. This study invites curiosity and great conversations about seasonal rhythms.

🦅 USA State Birds BUNDLE
Perfect for my little eagle-eyed bird lover. A full year of learning built around state birds, with hands-on projects that let curiosity lead.

ONE winner will receive the entire prize pack, including everything above and more.

Come Meet with Me In-Person

If you’re craving connection beyond your own four walls, there are also a few in-person events coming up that I love recommending — spaces to explore ideas, ask questions, and remember you’re not doing this alone.

NEON Kidz Education Expo at the Keizer Event Center

📅 February 28, 2026
Keizer, OR

This is a fantastic one-day expo for families who want to explore homeschool and alternative education options in a relaxed, welcoming environment. You’ll find curriculum vendors, local resources, and conversations that help you feel more confident about your next steps — whether you’re brand new or a seasoned homeschooler looking to refresh.

Portland Homeschool & Alternative Education Fair at Rose City Park United Methodist Church

📅 March 7, 2026
📍 Portland, OR

This fair is a great option if you’re in the Portland area and want to see a wide range of educational philosophies and resources all in one place. It’s especially helpful if you’re in a season of re-evaluating what’s working (and what’s not) and want exposure to new ideas without pressure.

Teach the Children Homeschool Convention

📅 March 28, 2026
📍 Richland, WA

Washington moms — save the date!

This convention is on my radar, and while details are still coming together, it’s shaping up to be a valuable opportunity for encouragement, teaching, and community. If you’re nearby, I’d definitely recommend putting this one on your calendar now and keeping an eye out for more information.

A Gentle Reset for Overwhelmed Moms

As you explore resources and events like these, it helps to have something steady to come back to — especially when all the information starts to feel overwhelming.

That’s exactly why I wrote Overwhelmed.

This book is for the homeschool mom who isn’t doing it “wrong,”
but is simply carrying too much, alone.

In Overwhelmed, I walk alongside you through the real reasons homeschool can feel so heavy — expectations, guilt, emotional overload — and help you turn chaos into peace-filled, life-giving routines that actually work in real life.

As one mom shared after reading it:

“This isn’t just about homeschooling — it’s about emotional regulation, brain science, and connection.
It’s everything I didn’t know I needed.”

Roma

Inside the book, we talk about:

  • understanding your nervous system (hello, “lava monster” moments)
  • using the Traffic Light Brain to pause and respond with calm
  • building flexible rhythms instead of rigid schedules
  • reframing self-doubt and setbacks with compassion
  • reconnecting with your vision — and yourself

This isn’t about perfection or having it all together.
It’s about healing, clarity, and remembering that joy comes from presence, not performance.

If you’re gathering ideas, attending events, and trying to discern what fits your family best, this book can be a grounding place to land — a reminder that you are not behind, not broken, and not alone.

our favorites books

🇺🇸 America’s History Vol. 1 & 2 from the Tuttle Twins

AGES 8–14 YEARS OLD

All three of my older boys — 9, 11, and 13 — cannot put these down.
And not in a “Mom assigned this” way.

They are literally reading them for fun.
On their own.
More than once.

That alone tells me everything I need to know.

This series presents American history in a way that feels like a story — engaging, conversational, and thoughtful — without watering it down. Big ideas are introduced clearly, and curiosity is invited instead of forced.

For moms: these books pull double duty. They’re enjoyable and homeschool-friendly, with optional printables and videos that add rich context without extra prep.
For kids: it feels like a compelling narrative, not a textbook.

If you’re looking for history your kids actually want to read — and reread — this series is a gem.

🧱 The Brick Bible: The New Testament

AGES 7–12 YEARS OLD

My 9-year-old received this over the holidays… and has read it multiple times since.

For YEARS, I didn’t realize there were LEGO depictions of Bible stories — and when I found out, I was almost mad we missed them earlier. 😂 We would have loved these when the boys were younger.

It’s surprisingly detailed, visually engaging, and so fun to flip through. Half the joy is noticing how they used specific LEGO pieces to tell each part of the story.

For moms: it’s a fresh, creative way to engage kids with Scripture — especially visual learners.
For kids: it feels playful, familiar, and approachable, which makes them want to come back to it again and again.

This one has definitely earned a permanent place on our shelf.

🦴 Bone by Bone: Comparing Animal Skeletons
AGES 6–12 YEARS OLD

This book isn’t flashy.
It’s short, simple, and quietly brilliant.

And it’s one of the books that sparked my oldest son’s love of biology years ago.

It compares animal skeletons side by side, helping kids notice patterns, differences, and design — without heavy explanations or overwhelming text. It’s engaging and educational, but kids don’t realize they’re “learning.”

For moms: it’s proof that you don’t need elaborate curriculum to inspire real interest in science.
For kids: it turns observation into fascination and builds a foundation for deeper scientific thinking.

Sometimes the books that make the biggest impact are the ones that feel the simplest.
